The Scoop: Pizza Jungle Ikeja is Now on Chowdeck!

One of my goals in life is to become a Chowdeck Prime Minister. Nigeria has a lot going on, so I don’t know that a future in government here would ever be in the cards for me, but this Chowdeck one? E sure for me. It takes 5001 points to unlock the Prime Minister level and I’m currently at less than 400 points 😭, but slow and steady wins the race, folks.

Anyway, it was this sheer ambition that led me yet again into this app’s arms on a random workday, even after I had had lunch. For some reason, Chowdeck is the only food app that delivers to my office, so I know every restaurant in the area like the back of my hand. But on this day, something fresh popped up: Pizza Jungle, a pizza franchise I had literally only heard about a few days before from a friend, who said they had the best pizza in Lagos. She had mentioned how ironic it was that they only had a branch all the way in Ajah, so I was super stoked to find out that I would soon get to try this pizza with such a tall reputation on my own turf.

PS: Turns out they also have a branch in Egbeda, so it’s not the first on the Mainland. I called the branch and apparently, they had opened the Ikeja store (inside Jara Mall) in December; only recently did they decide to partner with Chowdeck.

I ordered via the app — a medium pepperoni pizza — and it got to me in under 30 minutes. When in doubt, I always order a pepperoni, as it’s basically the litmus test of pizzas.

When I get a pizza, the first thing I check for is that classic cheese draw. It’s definitely one of the markers of a good pizza and fortunately, Pizza Jungle ticked that box. I was even more hopeful. When I finally settled down to try it, I was pretty impressed. I wouldn’t say it’s the best I’ve had in Lagos, but it was definitely a worthy contender — up there with Panarottis and Jinja Garden. It was a bit spicy, super succulent, with a crispy base and properly flavourful. The only downside to it was that some of the pepperoni slices tasted a bit too sharp.

Overall, I’d rate their pizza an 8/10 and all things considered, Dodo Pizza and Domino’s should watch their backs, or bags, or both. There’s a new player in town.
