Alcohol Recommendations For Different Lockdown Moods

This lockdown has been a repetitive, never-ending rollercoaster ride. Our moods and emotions have all been in a flurry at one point or another. One can’t comfortably and without guilt or judgement— go for a drive, have a  run, or even walk to clear one’s head. We may not have a direct solution for this period, but it’s a known fact that drinking relieves stress and helps people relax.

There is a drink for every mood: whether you’re happy or not.  We’ve curated a list of different alcohol recommendations for all your moods.

Editor’s note: Please drink responsibly, abeg. And don’t drink during your work calls. And if you’re looking to curate your drinks stash, we curated a list especially for you right here, you’re welcome.

Absolut Vodka After A Long Day Of Endless Zoom Calls

Did you have a weird day at work? Or was that Zoom call extraordinarily long? A glass of Absolut vodka on the rocks (ice cubes) could help relax your nerves, and also aid circulation of blood around your body.

You could think about a million things and just one glass of Four Cousins red wine will bring you back down to earth.  It’s been known to ‘get you on’ so you gotta be cautious with that. So, it’s definitely a drink to share with your favourite someone on a special night or when you’re attending virtual rocks or owambe.

Heineken For When You’re Tired Of Being Tired

With this lockdown, it’s not uncommon to want to “off your shirt” and scream when you’re sick of it all. Heineken is a rough, brand of beer that is suitable for when you need to wind down and take a breather. For those working during this period, every day is a workday. For others, the uncertainty is a source of stress and anxiety. And so, when you get the chance to relax, get a glass —or preferably—a can of Heineken to sip while enjoying that nice game, and take pride in your foam moustache while at it.

Amarula To Go With Your Quarantine Snacks

So far, snacks are some of the essential items for young Nigerians, and there has to be a drink to sip while you stuff your face with your snacks. Amarula is a sweet cream liqueur and comes in highly recommended for those with a sweet tooth. The spirit goes well with dessert and baked goods, so you could add a splash or two when next you’re baking. You could also try other recipes and pairings available on the Amarula website.

Johnnie Walker For The Cold, Lonely Nights

If you’re spending this quarantine season all by yourself, the best thing you can do is to find a source of warmth, especially now that the rains have started. We might not be able to cuddle you at night but Johnnie Walker is there for you on a cold rainy night or a chilly, wet morning. Whiskey gives you the same feeling of being wrapped in a blanket. If you’re feeling a bit sad and lonely, this is definitely the drink for you.
