A List Of The Better Bars On The Mainland

Editor’s note: Since the lockdown, we’ve compiled lists of where to find specific dishes in Lagos, from pasta to seafood boil. We’re keeping this trend since like us, you reader, are always on the hunt for where to enjoy curated dining experiences in Lagos.

However, not all the places on these lists have been reviewed by EatDrinkLagos, so these articles are not endorsing any restaurant or food business. Links to reviewed spots will be hyperlinked internally if available.

The mainland has remained mostly uncharted territory for the bar hoppers of Lagos. While some of the bars there may not have the sexy lighting and fancy aesthetics of the islands, they make up for this with an extremely lively culture. . Here are some decent places on the mainland to grab a drink.

Kalakuta Museum Rooftop

Where? Allen, Ikeja

The lesser-known Kalakuta has a rooftop bar you can visit if you tour the museum. The drink prices are rather hectic, but the ambiance can be pretty amazing. If you like afrobeat and don’t mind the smell of “herbs”, you’ll feel right at home.  They don’t really do cocktails here, but you can try the Chapman.

Lounge 38

Where? Surulere

Surulere should honestly be a hub of entertainment, but for some reason, its bars tend to miss the mark quite a bit. Lounge 38 is pretty decent, and the service is better than most places in the area.

There are Lagos Long Islands, and then there are Surulere Long Islands, if you’re brave enough to order here, just make sure you have a designated driver for the trip home.

Big Joe’s Bar

Where: Ilupeju

Big Joe’s has a few interesting decor pieces going on for it, and they serve a special fish of the day. If you want a spin on the usual “fish pepper soup”, you’ll appreciate it here. You should try their in-house cocktail, Da Bomb if you visit.

Truffles Restaurant & Bar

Where? Ikeja

Truffles is located in the less chaotic part of Ikeja GRA. While the food isn’t spectacular, it offers much needed casual nightlife on the mainland. If you ever stop by, you should try the signature Truffles cocktail.

Cegeolie Resto Pub

Where? Ikeja

While it is a little understated, one thing people love about Cegeolie Resto is consistency. They have an authentic grill and outdoor seating that’s perfect for large groups. If you do visit, grab a salty margarita to go with your chicken strips.
